Alfred Extensions

It's been a while since the last post. ;-)

Just wanted to post some Extensions for the excellent app Alfred (http://goo.gl/PQoB) I've made the last two years.

Most of them use growl (http://goo.gl/l5KqQ), so that is a good idea to have installed. :-)

Descriptions of the Extensions:

Check Spotify For Artist: Checks if the given artist name exists on Spotify.

Search Spotify: Open a search in Spotify.

Search Playing Track in Spotify: Searches Spotify for the current track in iTunes.

Spotify Artist Page: Open the Spotify page for the given artist name.

Clone With GitHub: Open the given URL with GitHub.

Dollars to sek: Converts US dollars to Swedish crowns.

SEK to Dollar: Converts Swedish crowns to US dollars.

Expand URL: Expands Shortened URLs

Google Shortener: Shorten a URL using goo.gl and copy to clipboard.

Kill: Kill the process named

Remove Duplicates: Removes duplicate rows from the clipboard.

Sort Copied Lines: Sortes the lines in the clipboard alphabetically.

Renew DHCP: Renew with the DHCP server.

Say: The classical say command.

Find in Titanium API: Do a search in the Titanium API library.

Show Character Palette: Displays The Character Palette.

Show File Encoding: Displays the file encoding.

Tar: Tar the given file(s)/folder(s)

Type Clipboard: Type the current clipboard.

Who Uses This?: Display what processes use the given file.

Spotifinder 2.0 & Kondensator

Spotifinder is moving to Kondensator. This means new graphics from professional artists, the previously announced full search, volume control and playing track info (all better looking than previous plan). Most of all it means that Spotifinder will get more attention for further development.

Problems with Spotifinder

Have noticed that people have been having problem with Spotifinder for iPhone, and the user SingleDigit have identified the problem. I was of the impression that I would get notifications when I got comments on blog posts, something that I have enabled manually now to not let this happen again.

The reason Spotifinder haven’t worked for some of you is that you need to enable access for assistive devises under the Universal Access preference pane. It is embarrassing indeed that I’ve missed this step.

Spotifinder 2.3

Spotifinder is a simple tool for Mac that helps regular users to do correct searches in Spotify. Search specifically for Artist, Album, Genre or Label without formulating a special search syntax, or select the currently playing artist in iTunes to see what tracks Spotify has from that artist.

It also works as a middleman for the iPhone application Spotifinder, enabling Spotifinder for iPhone to act as a remote for Spotify with the extra ability to search directly from the iPhone/iPod touch.

New in version 2.3:

New Icon.
Preparations for the updated version (1.1) of the iPhone version of Spotifinder.

Spotifinder for iPhone & iPod touch

Ever wanted to have a remote control for Spotify? What about doing Spotify searches from the couch or your bed? Well, now you can. By running the mac version Spotifinder application on your Mac (version 2.1 or later, 2.2 or later recommended), you can now control Spotify over the local network, without having to do any configuration.

Version 2.0 includes the ability to act as a middle-man between Spotify and the iPhone version of Spotifinder (Currently waiting approval from Apple). Enabling the user to user their iPhone to control Spotify and to do Spotify searches.

One Objective Feed 1.6

One Objective Feed is an easy to use and light-weight RSS reader that has a simple user interface, but still elegant to the eye and sporting a nice fade-in effect for the windows. It has the ability to archive articles for later reading, and shows Growl notifications if Growl is installed. The inspiration for One Objective Feed is making RSS easy for the regular user.

Version 1.6 includes these enhancements:

OPML import/export.
Adjustable divider.
Doesn't try to talk to GrowlHelperApp if Growl isn't installed.
GUI tweaks & enhancements.

Spotifinder 1.1

Version 1.1 includes a new "Active Mode" where Spotifinder listens to iTunes and updates the search field when the artist changes in iTunes.

Tjatter 1.1

Are you feeling a bit paranoid and don't want your chats to neither go through a third party server nor have your conversations stored by strangers? Then Tjatter is the application for you. You start the server application on a computer of your choice and that's it, it's up and running without any needed configuration. After that you just input the server computers IP adress (or domain name) and choose a username and you are chatting with your friends, it's that easy! It uses a light encryption method so that the messages sent to and from the server won't be in plain text. Mind you, the encryption is indeed a light one, so it won't hold for industry strength decryption software, but it will keep your conversation safe from your regular eavesdropping enthusiast.

Safari 4 Final Tabs on Top

5 easy steps to get your tabs back on top in Safari 4 when you have had the beta installed. First of all, you need to have used TimeMachine before upgrading, now, let's get to it.

Go to your applications folder and start up TimeMachine.
Go way back to before you upgraded to the final version of Safari 4.
Restore the beta version of Safari. Keep both the beta and the final version.
The beta now has the name "Safari.app", rename it to something like "Safari Tabs on Top.app" and then rename the final version of Safari that now has the name "Safari (original).app" to the correct "Safari.app".
Now when you start up "Safari Tabs on Top.app" you will have your precious tabs back on top where they actually felt better.

You are now using the Tabs on Top feature from the beta of Safari 4, but still get the version of Webkit that comes with the final version.

Extra steps for international users:

Right/Control click on the "Safari.app" package and go to the folder Contents/Resources.
Copy your language pack to the desktop.
Right/Control click on the "Safari Tabs on Top.app" package and go to the folder Contents/Resources/English.lproj.
Copy the file "Browser.nib" file into your language pack that you extracted to the desktop, and replace your localized version.
Show information of the "Safari Tabs on Top.app" and select the tab Languages.
Press the "+" button and select you language pack you extracted to your desktop.
Surf away without the irritating white border on top of the web view that haunted the international versions of the "Browser.nib" file.

The english language pack will still say "Version 4 Public Beta (5528.16)"
